We can go ahead and delete the recovery partition to make room for our primary Windows Partition.

Windows 10 UEFI Paritions Deleting the Recovery Partition # Then you have your primary Windows parition followed by the recovery parition containing tools and data to recover your Windows installation in case of failures. Follwing the system partition you have the Microsoft Reserved Parition (MSR) that manages the partitions itself. Without the system parition you will not be able to start Windows. First comes a System Partition containing the master boot record (MBR). The Windows 10 UEFI parition layout looks like the following. In our case there is a recovery partition in between and therefor the primary partition (C:) cannot be extended. This happens because Windows 10 creates the recovery partition after your primary partition so it can easily be extended. Blocked because you can only extend your existing partition with unallocated space directly to the right of the partition you want to extend. More often than not, the partition you want to extend is blocked by a Recovery Partition. Primary Partition blocked by Recovery Partition # However in a non lab environment things might look a little different. After extending the VHDX you just need to go into Disk Management and expand your partition.

Since Windows Server 2012R2 and Windows 8.1 this is even possible while the VM is running. In such cases it comes in handy that you can simply extend the existing virtual hard disk. If it is really that important to you to get that extra 50mb back into C: drive, what I would try first is:When you are working with Visual Machines (VMs) and fixed hard disks it can happen that you run out of space. But, I suppose if the 50mb partition was showing 100% free space, then you could be fairly certain you weren't deleting anything necessary. The only concern I would have is if the boot files got moved to the 50mb partition and then you deleted it, you would have to repair your no-boot files situation.

Splitting the partition with an empty 50mb partition and then deleting it and adding it to C: drive would probably also work. I think Partition Wizard is saving some free space so that it creates a small backup of files to be moved to allow the shrink operation with the "Using enhanced Data Protection mode" checked. Now on the Partition Size block you can click the little down arrow to shrink the partition and add free space to the end. Uncheck the block for "Using enhanced data protection mode". Click the move/resize partition icon in the menu bar. Well i can split (split feature on minitool) it to a 50 mb partition then delete it and then make the c drive take it, should i do that?If it is really that important to you to get that extra 50mb back into C: drive, what I would try first is:Ĭlick on the EFI partition in Partition Wizard to highlight it. Yes, No error, just cannot shrink using up and down arrow.
